Botanical Overview

Ink Nut (Terminalia chebula) is a flowering plant in the Combretaceae family. Traditional medicine systems have documented several valuable applications for this species, supported by its observed therapeutic effects. The combretum family (Combretaceae) includes trees, shrubs, and climbers with simple, opposite or alternate leaves and small flowers with four or five petals. The fruits are often winged or ridged. Many species contain tannins and have astringent, antimicrobial properties.

General Description

Terminalia chebula, commonly known as black- or chebulic myrobalan, is a species of Terminalia, native to South Asia from India, Pakistan and Nepal east to southwest China (Yunnan), and south to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
