Botanical Overview

Marigold (Tagetes erecta) is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. Traditional medicine systems have documented several valuable applications for this species, supported by its observed therapeutic effects. The daisy family (Asteraceae) is one of the largest plant families, characterized by composite flower heads (capitula) that contain many small florets surrounded by bracts. Plants range from tiny alpine herbs to large tropical trees. The family includes many medicinally important species with bitter compounds and essential oils.

General Description

Despite being native to the Americas, it is often called the African marigold. In Mexico, this plant is found in the wild in the states of México, Michoacán, Puebla, Veracruz and Guerrero.
