Commonly known as Prostrate Knotweed, this species belongs to the Polygonaceae family. This species holds a prominent place in the global materia medica, with an extensive record of traditional use spanning diverse cultures and medical systems. The buckwheat family (Polygonaceae) includes herbs, shrubs, and vines with swollen stem nodes (joints) and simple, alternate leaves with sheathing stipules called ochreae. General Description
It is also called prostrate knotweed, birdweed, pigweed and lowgrass. It is an annual found in fields and wasteland, with white flowers from June to October. It is widespread across many countries in temperate regions, apparently native to Eurasia, naturalized in temperate parts of the Southern Hemisphere.
