Explanation

Virechana is therapeutic purgation, another of the five main Panchakarma procedures. It is designed to eliminate aggravated Pitta dosha and associated Kapha and Vata from the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract, primarily the small intestine and liver.

Clinical Importance

Virechana is the primary treatment for Pitta-dominant disorders like skin diseases (Kushtha), jaundice (Kamala), chronic fevers, and inflammatory conditions. It is a powerful detoxification procedure.
