Explanation

Vamana is therapeutic emesis, one of the five main Panchakarma procedures. It is designed to eliminate aggravated Kapha dosha and associated Pitta from the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, primarily the stomach and chest.

Clinical Importance

Vamana is the treatment of choice for Kapha-dominant disorders such as chronic asthma, psoriasis, obesity, and hyperacidity. It must be performed under strict medical supervision after proper preparation (Purva Karma).
