Sanskrit Verse
कार्यं प्रकृतेः स्थापनम्।
— (Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 16/35 - Interpreted)
Explanation
Prakritisthapana means ’to re-establish the natural state’. This is the ultimate goal of Ayurvedic treatment (Chikitsa). The aim is not just to suppress symptoms, but to eliminate the disease from its root and restore the body’s innate, balanced constitution (Prakriti).
Clinical Importance
This principle defines the goal of a cure in Ayurveda. It involves bringing the doshas back to their natural state of equilibrium (Dosha Samya), thereby restoring health.
