Explanation

This is the ‘Cause and Effect Theory’, a fundamental principle of logic (Nyaya) that is central to Ayurveda. It states that every effect (Karya) must have a cause (Karana), and nothing can be produced without a cause. The cause always pre-exists the effect in some form.

Clinical Importance

This principle is the basis of all pathology (Nidana). Every disease (Karya) is understood to have a specific cause (Hetu). The primary goal of a physician is to identify and remove this cause (Nidana Parivarjana) to bring about a complete cure.
