Sanskrit Verse
उरःस्थः स त्रिकस्य आत्मवीर्येण हृदयान्नस्य च। अवलम्बनं करोति॥
— (Ashtanga Hrudayam, Sutrasthana 12/14 - Interpreted)
Explanation
Avalambaka Kapha is located in the chest (Urah-stha) and sacral region (Trika). Its function is to ‘support’ (Avalambana) the heart, lungs, and the spine. It provides the necessary lubrication and fluid medium for the functioning of these vital organs.
Clinical Importance
This Kapha provides the fundamental support and moisture for the thoracic cavity. Its imbalance can lead to respiratory problems with excessive mucus, lethargy, and lower back pain.
